Wire it in once. Forget it exists.
The no-app soft starter. SureStart is a sealed unit from Hyper Engineering, sized to your compressor's full-load amps. Pick the right size, install it, and move on — while your generator quietly starts an AC it had no business starting.

This is probably why you're here
- You want generator-ready startup without an app to manage.
- You'd rather have a sealed box that just works than a gadget to configure.
- You want comparable surge reduction to the Flex, for less.

Same job, same physics
No app, but it does what every true soft starter does — turns the startup spike into a ramp your generator can swallow:
What it does not do — and who it's for
Same limits as every true soft starter: it won't fix a dying compressor, won't cut your power bill, and isn't for variable-speed/inverter condensers, which already ramp themselves.
Good fit
- Single-phase residential units in the 8–32 FLA range, 230 V
- Generator backup, set-and-forget owners
- Flicker / breaker trips on startup
- Want lower cost than the app-equipped Flex
Skip it if
- Variable-speed / inverter condenser
- You want a live app readout (choose the Flex)
- Failing compressor or wiring fault
- You're unsure of your FLA and won't check the plate
SureStart vs. EasyStart Flex
Measured surge reduction is comparable — independent tests put them within a few amps on the same equipment. The difference is the app: the Flex shows you what the compressor is doing over Bluetooth for ~$140 more; the SureStart is a sealed box that just works, sized per unit.
Why two models instead of one?
SureStart units are matched to the compressor's amp range rather than self-calibrating across the whole span. Your data plate's RLA/FLA tells you which one — 8–16 FLA or 16–32 FLA at 230 V for the common residential cases.
Is "Hyper Engineering" the same company?
Yes — same product line, engineering still based in Port Kembla, Australia; the brand is now Eltwin Hyper after joining the Eltwin Group. US listings increasingly say "Eltwin Hyper SureStart."
