Why did the 25C AC tax credit really go away? The actual story.
The up-to-$2,000 heat-pump tax credit didn't quietly expire - it was deliberately ended almost seven years early. The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act set it to run through 2032; the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed July 4, 2025, cut it off for anything installed after December 31, 2025.
It wasn't a phase-out, it was a repeal: a credit that was supposed to last until 2032 got switched off seven years early by a single law signed in July 2025.
